Top 5 Places in America for a Foodie Vacation

This time of year may be all about eating less after eating so much holiday food. However, if you love to travel, it might be about planning your next foodie adventure. We’ve had the fortune to travel across America on a quest for something yummy. America is home to some of the best food on the planet if you know where to look.

New Orleans, LA

NOLA is home to one of the finest cuisines in the states- Cajun and Creole, yum. There’s nothing you want more when the weather starts getting chilly than some great jazz music and a bowl of gumbo. The city has plenty of fine dining, but it’s also one of the best spots for inexpensive street food, too. It gets even better when one of the many fun festivals is going on. Other than gumbo, po’ boy sandwiches, crawfish and a beignet from Cafe Du Monde are a must try.

Portland, OR

Portland gets a high rating in our book not only for its food but also for its awesome microbreweries. Beer aside, Portland has earned a reputation for eco-friendly farm-to-table dining and is also one of our favorite spots to try something trendy without being overwhelmed. You must try the crazy donut creations at VooDoo Doughnuts too.

Oahu, HI

Oahu has everything when it comes to food. You have the bustling city of Honolulu on one side with the classic shaved ice creations and hip dishes like poke bowls. On the North Shore, you’ll find authentic Hawaiian foods at the macadamia nut farms, garlic shrimp shacks, and the Dole Pineapple Plantation. While you’re there, you should take in a luau and try traditional Hawaiian dishes like smoked pork, poi and maybe even indulge in a mai tai.

Nashville, TN

Nashville is big enough to have any type of cuisine your heart can desire, but they’ve really embraced the locavore movement for a true down-home feel. Restaurateurs in Nashville put their heart and soul into their food, and we love them for it. Foodies must try the woodstock burger with Jack Daniel’s maple ketchup at Burger-Up and a classic barbecue dish at Peg Leg Porker.

Philadelphia, PA

Comfort food has found its perfect form in the Philly Cheesesteak. Under most circumstances, we would say that cheez wiz has no right to exist, but here it is magical. The pizza here is also ranked one of the best in the nation. Visit Reading Terminal Market for top notch cheesesteaks and everything else your mouth could desire.
