Plan a Romantic Getaway to Savannah, Georgia

Autumn is here, and it’s time for a romantic getaway.

But where should you go?

Savannah, Georgia is an ideal destination. Affectionately known as the Hostess City, Savannah is a love poem, wrapped in magic, inside a genteel fairy tale.

Getting There

Situated in the southeast corner of Georgia, Savannah can be reached by Interstate 95, Interstate 516 and Interstate 16 if driving. For guests flying into the area, the Savannah / Hilton Head International Airport is most convenient. However, some people opt for the Charleston International Airport and then drive the 85 miles to Savannah.

Staying There

You’ve secured transportation. So now it’s time to find accommodations!

If your idyllic romantic getaway includes a water view, look for a hotel or guest house on River Street or Riverfront Plaza. Foodies especially love this neighborhood’s 200-year-old cobblestone, palm-lined streets — because they’re teeming with restaurants, wine bars, and cafes!  We recommend staying at The Inn on West Liberty to enjoy all of this neighborhood’s best things to do.

The Savannah Historic District — Georgia’s oldest and the United States’ largest — is another fantastic choice. It’s a symphony of dreamy Spanish moss trees and historic homes, topped off with high-end dining and entertainment options.

City Market and East Bay Street are also super spots for art lovers and trendsetters, respectively.

Playing There

Under a midnight blue, star-studded sky, you and your love lounge on a plush blanket, sipping wine and nibbling cheese, as the Savannah Philharmonic’s dulcet tones fill the air. If this sensory-pleasing evening sounds sensational, then pick a date that coincides with one of the Orchestra’s Forsyth Park performances.

Are you a film buff? If so, plan your trip for the end of October when Savannah plays host to Hollywood at the city’s eponymous film festival. You can find this year’s schedule at the Savannah Film Festival’s website.

Visitors in town between Nov. 5 and Nov. 11 should make time for the Savannah Food and Wine Festival at the Georgia Railroad Museum. Attendees feast on Southern-inspired cuisine, sip on delicious wines and dance to the fabulous live music.

The boutiques on Broughton Street can accommodate any retail whims. And if you feel like relaxing on the beach, take a 20-minute drive to Tybee Island.

Savannah is an idyllic spot for a romantic fall getaway. Start planning your trip today!
