It is a pleasant surprise to find such interesting entertainment in Galena. You and your family are sure to enjoy the following things to do in their bustling downtown area.
The Old Blacksmith Shop
This working blacksmith shop is in an old barn-like structure downtown just one block behind Main Street. Ironwork craftsmen explain the process to you as you watch them make fascinating items right before your eyes using an appropriate furnace for their creations. You can even request a piece of hand-crafted iron work and watch while it is being forged.
You can see a historically accurate presentation on how to make horseshoes, and there are all types of blacksmith items made over the years that are hanging on the walls. It is FREE to explore and learn, but there is a jar for donations, and in the gift shop you can purchase modern-day items such as key chains, paperweights, and more to fund the business and keep it running.
P.T. Murphy Magic Theater
The small venue that seats 24 people makes it an intimate setting where everyone can see well. The magician does his flawlessly-executed tricks with lots of close-ups while he incorporates the audience into his hour-long very entertaining act. Even sitting up close, one cannot tell how he does his tricks.
This hidden treasure of a breathtaking private one-of-a-kind botanical garden is hidden away in the heart of Galena. It was created on rock and is a wonder of artistic and imaginative design incorporating the use of spectacular plants, flowers, and trees. There are also waterfalls, fountains, sculptures, and more.
The personable gentlemen giving the tours are long-time residents and impart enjoyable and informative insight about the town and its history. It is well worth the $10.00 fee per person.
Just off the road with a private access in the Galena Territory/Eagle Ridge Resort, these beautiful falls can even be seen from the road and are a short distance from it. They are spring fed and are a perfect place to take pictures and pause for reflection. Have an easy walk down a ramp directly to the falls, see the early morning mist, and listen to the water crash over the falls.
